Like you say, so long as they are not carry on you won’t have a problem. Bringing a knife is one thing (if it doesn’t get picked up by bag searches etc), but carrying it around when sightseeing, eating etc isn’t necessary.

Agree with walkingjack. There is no problem with carrying a simple pocket knife on your person either once in Thailand. You just need to look at some of glinting “weapons” some of the street sellers have for preparing their coconuts, fruit etc – to ban a pocket knife would be senseless.
